DOT'S CHRISTMAS STORE

Imagine being in the hospital at Christmas time with no gifts to give to your family or others
who might drop by with a gift for you. An already stressful situation becomes more depressing.

Now, imagine the happiness when "Dot's Christmas Store" comes in to your room
to help you do your Christmas shopping...at no charge to you!

OAVN is a supporter Dot's Christmas Store which collects gifts so that EVERY
Veteran in the Jack C. Montgomery VA  Hospital has a gift to give a loved one.

Hospitalized Veterans at the Jack C. Montgomery Hospital, in Muskogee, OK, who
can’t get out of bed to shop for loved ones are given gifts from “Dot’s Christmas
Store”. The purpose is to remove some of the holiday stress from these deserving
men and women when they know they have a gift to give.

This is a really fun
project because no one participating is asked to go out and purchase gifts, yet
many people are surprised to find they can easily help with this project. We
ask for something from your "gift closet" (you know....where you put the gifts
from your co-workers or your aunt that are nice but just not your taste...yes,
the ones you plan to re-gift to someone else). We'd like to keep it in the
$10-$15 range, that a Vet might give to his wife or daughter, or a young lady
Vet might give to her son or Dad.

It is the least we can do for these deserving men and women.

UPDATED: December 22, 2011 Another great day at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Hospital
in Muskogee.

One of the nurses did tell us that a welcome gift would be a stocking type cap for the Veterans

as some of the older Vets are very frail and are so cold. (After Christmas sales would be a good
place to find them, if you would like to participate.)

Our volunteers have been buying and donating gifts themselves. We want to make sure
that we have enough gifts and no Veteran is left out. Thank you to those who wish to help
us make it a reality.

SUGGESTIONS FOR GIFTS:

Veterans range from women and men just now returning from war to WWII veterans.
The loved one they need a gift for might be a spouse of 50 years or a new bride; maybe
a gift for a sibling or a grandchild.

The easiest way for us to tell you what would be suggested would be to look at your own family.
What kind of things would you want to give one of your loved ones in the $10-$15 range? (We
would like to keep it around there so it is equitable for all, whether they get first choice or are
the last to choose.)

Maybe in your "gift closet" you have that "great find" that you purchased on sale....or maybe you have
that nice gift from your boss that just wasn't to your taste. These unused gifts are most welcome
for the holiday store.

Gifts should be unwrapped so Veterans can "shop" to decide what they would like to give. "Price tags"
on gifts will say "Paid in Full", in recognition of their service to our country.

No time to purchase a gift and drop it off? You may use the donate button and we will do your shopping, for you.
