HTML clipboardUPDATE: The expired coupon project has allowed us to share over $250,000 worth
of coupons, so far.   The expansion of the coupon project has allowed us to
use
unexpired coupons to help others who have served our country.

EXPIRED COUPONS CAN HELP FEED HUNGRY LITTLE TUMMIES!

Imagine living on an overseas military base where few jobs are available for spouses.
As a "one income" family the higher cost of living puts a strain on your finances. Thus,
what to
feed your children until payday becomes a real challenge.

Wouldn't you agree that children going hungry is something that should NEVER be
a concern for our troops?

AN INEXPENSIVE WAY YOU CAN HELP
Expired coupons may appear worthless to you. However, those same expired
coupons
can help stretch the food budget of overseas military families struggling
to make ends
meet every month.

Manufacturer's grocery coupons are accepted by overseas military commissaries
for up to six months past their printed expiration date! (PLEASE NOTE: Due to time in
transit and finding someone there to dividing them up once they arrive we have been asked
to send them no more than 2 weeks expired.
) This means we need to receive them here
before they expire or at the very latest no more than a week expired, to allow us to get
them packaged and mailed quickly.

Unexpired manufacturer's coupons can also be used to help families living in
the
U.S.

All current manufacturers coupons that you won't be using are also happily
accepted as they can be shared with others serving in the military in the U.S., their
families and Veterans.

When a parent is deployed the other parent is left behind to stretch every dollar, as
far as possible.
This may mean that the family doesn't have the extra funds to buy
the Sunday paper to obtain grocery coupons. They are very grateful that you saved
out your coupons to help them instead of putting them in a recycle bin.

There are also Veterans here in the U.S. who could use a helping hand yet do not
wish to ask for help at a food pantry.
Because so many people use grocery coupons
your coupons can provide the extra help without embarrassment to anyone.

Coupons are also used  for
Dot's Christmas Store to provide gifts to hospitalized veterans
who cannot go shopping. This allows those who cannot leave their hospital bed to have
a Christmas gift to give to their loved ones.

Hence, grocery coupons from your Sunday paper are invaluable to many people.
Sharing
your coupons, while costing you only postage can make a
big difference!

Please remind others not to put their coupons into the recycle bin. Maybe you
don't take the newspaper, yet still want to help. There are numerous places to find
coupons.

HOW TO GET EXPIRED COUPONS TO OVERSEAS MILITARY BASES

WILL OKLAHOMA AMERICAN VETERANS NEWS (OAVN) ACCEPT UNEXPIRED COUPONS?    Definitely! Current (non-expired) coupons can be  used to benefit families living on U.S. military bases whose loved ones may have been deployed. In addition, hospitalized Veterans and others in need can sometimes use a helping hand.

SHOULD WE CUT OUT THE COUPONS? Yes, if they are expired and you are mailing to the overseas military base, it will save you space in the package, thus saving you postage.  (If you are sending those which have not expired yet, to be used for Veterans and active military families in the U.S. it is much easier and faster to get them out before they expire, if they are not clipped.)

HOW TO BE A PART OF SUPPORTING OUR MILITARY FAMILIES WITH EXPIRED COUPONS:

    1. Pull out all  coupon inserts, before recycling the Sunday paper into a bin or the trash. Please also look inside the grocery ads for the coupons in the mid week sales that come in the mail.
    2. Tell family, co-workers, neighbors, friends at church about the project so they don't put their coupons into a recycle bin or the trash.)
    3. Mail expired coupons to overseas military bases. (Postage is the same to mail overseas as mailing it across town to us to re-mail!)
    4. Unexpired coupons can be sent to Oklahoma American Veterans News (OAVN) at the address below to help active military and Veterans.

Thank you for sharing both your expired and current coupons to make a difference in people's lives.

Dewey Bartlett is MAYOR of the City of Tulsa, OK. EVENTS - 2010 SALUTE TO HOSPITALIZED VETERANS- February 8th-14th, 2010 Oklahoma American Veterans News (OAVN) honors Veterans this week, each year. Businesses offering discounts to Veterans are invited to contact Oklahoma American Veterans News about sharing their information with Veterans during the week. HUNGRY LITTLE TUMMIES-The wife of a military officer who taught school while stationed overseas, kept a pantry to feed American soldiers children, who often came to school hungry. Although struggling to get by, these families can't get food stamps to help make ends meet, while they are living overseas. Here is one way that we can all help, even if our own money is tight. Expired Coupon Project. BANANAS AND RAISINS FOR VETERANS (ongoing project) The night before lab work, Veterans may be required to fast, which can leave them shaky and weak the next day. A small box of raisins or a banana can help until they can have a meal. When possible, OAVN likes to provide bananas and raisins at the Ernest Childers Veterans Clinic. OAVN volunteers will pass these out when they have the funds. Last year volunteers were able to do thisfive mornings during the year. SOCKS- a much requested item for hospitalized Veterans are socks. We are currently trying to locate a supplier who can help us by providing a discount. DOT'S CHRISTMAS STORE will begin to re-stock, starting in November so that hospitalized Veterans, who cannot go shopping themselves, have a Christmas gift to give loved ones. This is a fun project because no one is asked to go out and spend money. OAVN STRETCHES EVERY DOLLAR YOU DONATE In the fall of 2009, OAVN made the decision to begin contacting past donors by mail, saving on phone and office expenses and allowing donations to go directly to our worthwhile programs.OAVN volunteers have a sincere desire to help our Veterans having found Veterans to be one of the most gracious and appreciative groups. FRUIT- After fasting all night before having tests run at the VA outreach clinic, many Veterans need a little something to help with the weakness. Fruit is purchased at wholesale prices, to ensure that your donation is stretched, as far as possible. DISCOUNTS FOR VETERANS- Providing a Veterans discount can mean repeat customers, for your business, by those who might not have heard of and/or visited your business before. HOSPITALIZED VETERANS Some veterans enter the hospital with nothing-- not even a toothbrush. Others are there for so long the items, such as shaving cream or deodorant that they brought with them, has run out. OAVN EXPIRED COUPON PROJECT is a new project we are launching. You may find it easier to use paypal and have volunteers purchase items for you. WHERE YOUR DONATION GOES: Your financial support helps with veterans needs throughout the year,as well as the "Christmas For the Kids" program, for local less fortunate children. For more than twenty years, this program has been helping kids with such things as toys and clothes. OAVN STRETCHES EVERY DOLLAR YOU DONATE In the fall of 2009, OAVN made the decision to contact past donors by mail, saving on phone and office expenses and allowing donations go directly to our worthwhile programs. No money is paid in salaries. OAVN volunteers have a sincere desire to help our Veterans. BUSINESSES HONORING VETERANS Veterans appreciate discounts but even more, they value the support shown by businesses in providing a "Veteran's Discount." This discount can mean repeat customers, for your business, by those Veterans who might not have heard of and/or visited your business before. Advertising in traditional ways, in order to reach Veterans with a discount, can be expensive. Door flyers can be a waste of both time and your advertising dollar when there is no way of knowing if anyone living in the home is a Veteran. In the past, businesses might advertise by offering a discount in a coupon book. In these changing economic times, it can be harder for people to come up with money to purchase a book, in order to receive the discount. During SALUTE TO HOSPITALIZED VETERANS WEEK, OAVN volunteers gave out discount coupons provided by sponsors. Several of the businesses have told us they were pleased at the business generated, from the distribution of those discount coupons! GET YOUR DISCOUNTS DIRECTLY INTO THE HANDS OF VETERANS CONTACT US now to have your business included.Your coupons, reward cards or other discounts can be handed out to Veterans, without you having to hire anyone to do it. Please bookmark this site and return often. You will find a small sample of some of the letters from organizations we have helped under the "Testimonials" tab. To the men and women who have made huge sacrifices to defend our country: We sincerely appreciate your service to our country. It is our desire that no veteran, from any war, ever feels forgotten. Oklahoma American Veterans News is here and ready to help. In addition to the current projects we are working on (phone cards, fruit and care items ) OAVN is helping Veterans with: DISCOUNTS FOR VETERANS- We are working to compile a comprehensive list of Veterans discounts. (See link on left side of page.) Some discounts aren't advertised and some businesses just haven't thought to give one, yet offering a Veterans discount can help bring them new customers. (HINT: Always ask a business if they offer one. If you find one, please share it with us. ) POPCORN- commercial popcorn machine OAVN recently donated to the VA clinic in Tulsa. THE CHRISTMAS STORE for hospitalized Veterans who are not able to shop for their loved ones. MAKING FINANCIAL DONATIONS Green Country Thank you for helping Oklahoma American Veterans News which allows us to help others. You may prefer to make a financial donation online, to help purchase the items currently needed.THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF OTHERS! In 1988, Henry Hall, Phil Adair and Olin Harris, themselves veterans, realized the need and started Oklahoma American Veterans News to help others, doing most of the work themselves.Over the years, (having seen OAVN's track record with any project they gotten involved with) many of us asked Mr. Hall to help us on other projects besides those just for vets. Helping needy children, abused women, and providing food baskets for the hungry were just a few that he quietly stepped up and quickly made a success. Reading through the stacks of letters of appreciation and newspaper clippings about Oklahoma American Veterans News, while building this website, was overwhelming. Having been mentored in volunteering by Mr. and Mrs. Hall since the 1980s I have absolutely no idea, as the webmaster, how to show a good sampling of the many thank you letters they have in their files. Henry Hall has received letters of appreciation for Oklahoma American Veterans News from the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Department of Human Services, Department of Veterans Affairs, Salvation Army, Tulsa Senior Services, United Methodist Cooperatives Ministries, Family and Children's Services, Action Inc....and the list goes on and on...and on! A Winning Team
